Biography
Jimmy Pelage, for a poetics of reverie
The culmination of patient work and a frantic quest for refinement, the works of Jimmy Pelage,
artist of Guadeloupe origin, are "unique" in every sense of the word. This alchemist of the
color, this silversmith of the material thinks and designs his creations as fragments of
formal perfection taking particular care to obtain original colors and materials
subtle that will take the gaze on a journey and restore all its meaning to the lost art of contemplation.
As attested by "Liberty", a splendid achievement with magnetic minerality, an ode to anchoring as much as to
the flight of what makes sense beyond the futile and fleeting of our ordinary lusts. The theme of
butterfly, a common motif whose 17th century Flemish painting seemed to have exhausted the
meaning (one thinks of Jan Van Kessel or of Brueghel the Elder), is revisited in a masterly way by the
sensitivity of this demanding plastic artist, at ease with all media and sought after internationally to
his talents in the field of spray silver plating. As for the real conch conch which
serves as a support for this butterfly provider of souls in exile, it is reminiscent of the strong content
symbolic of an essential element of Creole culture, formerly required to perfect the
communication from one hill to another and to mark the great stages of existence here below.
There is no doubt that behind the absolute poetry that emerges from his delicate achievements also
precise as precious, hides a contemporary artist with whom we must now reckon.
