Biography

Jean-Claude Moschetti (1967, France)
After studying at INSAS (National Higher Institute of Performing Arts and
Diffusion Techniques) in Brussels, Jean-Claude Moschetti then worked in the
movie theater. However, he never abandoned his interest in photography and, from
From 1995, he worked as a freelance press photographer. Jean-Claude Moschetti has
traveled extensively in Africa and is now carrying out more personal long-term projects
such as “Magic on Earth” about traditional West African secret societies
The African continent is imbued with a rich and complex history of mysticism, the
magic being often accepted as an integral part of everyday life. Working
mainly with African voodoo and magic societies in West Africa, the
photographer Jean-Claude Moschetti highlights African spirituality and tradition,
with complex photographic compositions showing ancestors and spirits

protectors returning to earth. As a Vodun initiate of the Egungun cult in Benin he
Even, Moschetti has a unique vision of this world of shadows.

Jean-Claude Moschetti also explores West African myths and beliefs
popular in stagings which allow him to make divinities visible
voodoo and mythical creatures. For these works, costumes and accessories are created
at his request in collaboration with traditional artists and elders".
