Biographie

Jacira da Conceição née le 23 février 1990 est une artiste et chercheuse (CHAIA - Université d'Évora) qui travaille avec la sculpture en céramique et différents supports et multi-techniques comme les textiles ou les objets trouvés. Sa pratique artistique est étroitement liée à son identité culturelle. Elle est née en 1990 et a grandi sur l'île de Santiago, au Cap-Vert. Elle vit et travaille entre le Cap-Vert et le Portugal. Dans son travail, elle est profondément impliquée dans les éléments de la nature et dans l'observation de l'immatériel. Travailler la céramique signifie pour elle une approche très poétique de l'argile, un matériau qui reflète la beauté, l'harmonie originelle et la nature profonde avec ses éléments d'eau, de feu, d'espace, de lumière et de fragilité, jusque dans sa manipulation. Jacira da Conceição considère son action artistique comme une fusion avec l'espace, le geste quotidien, la vie elle-même. Parallèlement, la céramique et ses techniques, réalisées majoritairement par des femmes, sont au cœur de son travail artistique, mais aussi l'île, le sens de la pluie et de la mer, les saisons, la communauté des potiers et leurs affinités gestuelles et l'esprit et le fait que la terre est quelque chose de partagé. De son travail émane une poésie presque rituelle, des sculptures féminines qui parlent d'une vision féminine de l'existence. "Le pot est un lieu qui unit les gens, qui passe de main en main, fait de terre, la même terre qui nous porte."
