Biography
Frank Shepard Fairey or Shepard Fairey, also known by the pseudonym OBEY, is an American street artist, screen printer, muralist and illustrator born on February 15, 1970 in Charleston, South Carolina.
Always on the edge of illegality, Shepard Fairey is an American borderline artist. His work is known worldwide thanks to the poster supporting the presidential campaign of Barack Obama which he created in 2008. "Hope" has since been declined in a thousand ways and taken up by many tabloids. A controversial new version, titled "Yes we scan", released in the summer of 2013, affords Barack Obama headphones. And points to the United States' electronic surveillance strategy. Shepard Fairey immediately approved this way of remixing his work.
Exhibitions
On the evening of February 6, 2009, Shepard Fairey was arrested in Boston for graffiti of which he was the author, on the way to the Boston Institute of Contemporary Art which presented his exhibition, "Supply and Demand".
